Legendary synth-pop band Devo will be celebrated as part of this year’s Ann Arbor Film Festival, organizers announced Tuesday.

The Akron, Ohio nerdcore outfit will be featured in two of the festival’s programs. Devo founders Gerald Casale and Mark Mothersbaugh, along with restorationist Peter Conheim, will be on hand for a screening and Q&A of “50 Years of De-Evolution: The Restored Films of Devo (1974–1984)” at 7:30 p.m. March 26.

In addition, Chris Smith’s 2024 documentary “Devo” will be shown at 5:30 p.m. on March 29. Both screenings will take place inside the main auditorium at the Michigan Theater.

Devo has a history with the Ann Arbor Film Festival, as their film “In the Beginning Was The End: The Truth About De-Evolution” was featured at the Ann Arbor Film Fest in 1977.

“Devo is a perfect fit for the Ann Arbor Film Festival,” AAFF executive director Leslie Raymond said in a media release. “The festival offers artists from around the world an opportunity to express their view of the human condition. Devo has been doing the same thing for more than 50 years.”

The Ann Arbor Film Festival, now celebrating its 63rd year, runs March 25-30 at the Michigan Theater, and will include more than 150 short and feature-length films.

Tickets for the festival are on sale now through its website, aafilmfest.org.
